Students should bring a pair of small, sharp scissors and a ready smile.  All other materials and shared tools will be provided.

We will make 6” x 8” mug rug, hooked in both wool strips and yarn. The class will cover many elements of hooking rugs, see our website for more details.

The class will cover these elements of hooking rugs:
-Manipulating the hook
-Spacing the hooked loops
-Establishing the direction of the loops to enhance the pattern
-Maintaining the shape of the pattern
-Finishing the completed piece
In addition we will discuss:
-Color selection in a rug
-Hook shapes and sizes
-Tools used for cutting wool strips
-Choices in background fabric
-Show and tell of some of the instructor’s rugs
-Width of wool strips and how they affect designs
-The varying “schools” of rug making; primitive, McGown fine cut accurately, Fitzpatrick’s “just have fun”
